Venetian Mask Enchantment meets "King of the Night"

During Carnival in Hamburg we had a chance to meet an exceptional spectacle along the Alster: A Venetian mask enchantment followed by a fancy fire show. It was the perfect occasion to try how the Leica Noctilux - the "King of the Night" - harmonizes with a MicroFourThirds system camera, in this case the Lumix GH2.

With the Noctilux-M 50 mm f/0.95 ASPH Leica currently builds the worlds fastest aspherical lens which is the successor to the famous Noctilux-M 50 mm f/1. Even though it's price tag is also record-breaking, you probably will have to wait for months until you could get a factory fresh one. Adapted to a MicroFourThirds (mFT) system camera with crop factor 2, the Noctilux becomes a moderate telephoto lens with a full frame (35mm film) equivalent of 100 mm focal length which is perfeclty fitted for portraits. It allows you to shoot from a distance of 2-3 meters with extraordinary low light capabilities, a very shallow depth of field (DOF) and creamy bokeh. But pictures speak louder than words:
